Review All the Things! Chips Ahoy Creme Donut (Dunkin’ Donuts)

This weekend, I was out of town for my undergraduate reunion. I got a chance that I missed last time I was on the East Coast – I actually went to a Dunkin’ Donuts! After stealing about half of someone’s iced coffee, I had two of their food products over the course of the weekend. The first, an Oreo Cheesecake Bar, was reviewed over at Oreo Life, but this post is dedicated to the the Chips Ahoy! Donut. The Chips Ahoy! donut was introduced at the start of June (just in time for National Donut day!), and there are two varieties. The crunch donut, I did not try, but I assume that it is the same as the creme donut, but without the filling.

From an external glance, it looks like a Boston Creme donut, but with Chips Ahoy cookie crumble added to the top. The crumble, similar to its Oreo brethren, made a bit of a mess while eating – however, it was less messy due to the chunks being a little bigger. I nibbled at the sides, getting a feel for just the donut and cookie topping. It was pretty good, but nothing particularly fancy. I then bit into the filling.

Now, some people swear by lava cakes and mostly cooked brownies due to having the doughy, liquid-like consistency in the middle. The filling served that exact purpose for me – it tasted like cookie dough, and was a bit runny like a partially cooked cookie. Now, a caveat – the flavor was quite intense, and might be too rich for people without a sweet tooth. However, I cannot imagine the donut without the filling. If you are lucky enough to live somewhere with a Dunkin Donuts nearby, you should go give one of the two Chips Ahoy products a try. I’m afraid to say it, but it won the cookie war between it and Oreo. Sorry, Oreo Life.

Yum! I have quite the sweet tooth and this looks amazing! Still hankering for that Oreo brownie cookie looking thing BA posted-drools*

    • They are as good as they look (although you’ll have to head down to SoCal to get some), and yes, I am also stoked to try the Oreo Brownies one of these days!

    • If you’re not a fan of creme filled donuts for consistency purposes, then the Chips Ahoy donut won’t really change that. If it’s a flavor thing, then I think that anyone who likes cookie dough ice cream will like these donuts. Fortunately, they do have a creme-less version, if you just want the Chips Ahoy crumble on top.

      • Okay. Good to know. Do you know if this was a limited time donut for National Donut day or will it be available for a while? I’ll need to try it if I go to Dunkin’ Donuts anytime soon.

      • I don’t know if it is limited time only, but I do know that they are also currently doing Chips Ahoy and Oreo iced coffees as well. Those will probably be around all summer?
